Leading Dundee hotel, Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa, has started work on a £2.4 million bedroom refurbishment.
The investment – which is part of a £12 million package of improvements across the Apex Hotels portfolio over the coming year – will see all 151 bedrooms and suites throughout the hotel transformed.
The public areas, along with gym and spa at the Dundee hotel will also be transformed as a result of the seven figure improvements.
Apex Hotels’ investment comes following another consecutive year strong growth for 2016-17, with a six per cent rise in turnover – up to £65m from £61.3m the previous year.
All of the furniture works for the duration of the project at Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa will be carried out by Dundee company, Dovetail Enterprises, which was appointed following a tender process.
The business was selected thanks to its locality, expertise and its policy which sees the business support individuals with disabilities through employment opportunities.
As well as working with Dovetail Enterprises, the hotel will also donate the furniture being removed from the bedrooms to social enterprise, Transform Community Development.
The local charity provides donations to people throughout the Dundee area who need essential furniture to make their house a home.
Brett Davidge, General Manager of Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa, said: “We’re delighted to see work on the multimillion pound refurbishment get under way. Our 151 guest bedrooms will be transformed as part of a project that is sure to improve our guests’ experience.
“Our hotel is well-known for the warm welcome extended to visitors from the area and further afield, and this investment will simply enhance our current offering.
“We’re also proud to be working closely with Dovetail Enterprises – a respected local business with a proud history within the city of Dundee – as well as Transform Community Development.”
Ken Laing, Executive Chairman at Dovetail Enterprises, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa on such a significant refurbishment project. It’s a great opportunity to forge strong relationships with an established local business.
“We pride ourselves on our strong ethical policy and quality workmanship, all of which takes place at our Dundee workshop. We look forward to guests of Apex Hotels enjoying the finished product.”
As part of the £12 million refurbishment programme, improvements will be made to three of its Edinburgh hotels – Grassmarket, Haymarket and Waterloo Place – as well as Apex City of London Hotel and Apex Temple Court Hotel.
Refurbishment works at Apex Grassmarket and Apex Temple Court Hotels are already under way.
