If you’re looking for a family holiday destination, the dynamic city of Dundee is the ideal choice. From award-winning attractions to the great outdoors, Dundee has something for every family and every budget, and our Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa is perfectly placed in the heart of the action. Here are our top reasons why it should be your next family holiday destination.
It's closer than you think
Within two hours of anywhere in Central Scotland and a gateway to the Highlands, Dundee is convenient and accessible by car, train or bus. This makes it easy for both quick weekend getaways and week-long family trips. What's more, many roads to Dundee are paved with stunning scenery so you'll be able to take in the gorgeous surroundings as you relax and enjoy the journey. What better way to amuse the kids than with a scenic game of 'I-spy'!
There are free things to do
Whether you’re visiting for a day, weekend or longer, there’s lots of cool things to do in Dundee that won't break the bank. There are loads of impressive galleries, museums and viewpoints that dominate our Instagram feeds when guests explore Dundee, and more importantly, they're free! Check out V&A Dundee this spring for a fun and educational day out. General museum entry is free and you only need to pay to get into their exclusive exhibitions, but they're always worth it and we'd highly recommend doing so. V&A Dundee is welcoming the showstopping Mary Quant exhibit this spring where you'll get to explore the iconic designer's collections that came to define swinging sixties fashion. Find out more.
It's packed full of attractions
From Camperdown Wildlife Centre to HMS Unicorn and Dundee Science Centre, we’re spoilt for choice in Dundee for days out with mini travellers. Dundee is the home of DC Thompson; publishers of famous comics Oor Wullie, Beano and Dandy. Comic book fans can visit statues of Minnie the Minx and Desperate Dan and his dog, which are outside The Overgate Shopping Centre. Everyone's favourite Oor Wullie has also been added outside The McManus, which is a great day out for all ages.
It's a gateway to the North
Dundee is a great hub for exploring the beauty that the east of Scotland has to offer. Drive across the Tay Bridge and you’ll be in St Andrews within half an hour. Here you can spend hours visiting the famous golf courses, stunning beaches and the historic town centre where Wills and Kate spent their uni days.
If you’d rather venture further afield, head north along the Angus Coastal Route - a drive that won’t disappoint. Follow the coast up through Broughty Ferry, Monifeith, Carnoustie, Arbroath, Montrose and Stonehaven for some truly stunning scenery.
We hope you and your family will join us for a stay in Dundee soon!
