We’re known for our warmer welcome, but these welcomes don’t stop with our guests. We pride ourselves on delivering these to our team members too, especially those who are transitioning into a new country and a new workplace.
Since June 2022, our in-house recruitment team have onboarded 26 Ukrainian team members into the family across the business in Scotland and England. In partnership with Job Centre Plus and Springboard, we helped navigate our Ukrainian friends through the recruitment process and have provided continuous and ongoing training to ensure they have a long and happy career with us at Apex.
The candidates have secured roles in key areas throughout the hotels including housekeeping, restaurant and bars, front office reception within guest services and in our kitchens. We’re thrilled to have been able to assist the new hires and offer them a career path and stability at a time when they needed it the most. We’ll continue to recruit and develop any future Ukrainian job seekers looking to secure work within the hospitality industry.
Through their support networks here in the UK, our new recruits have spread the word about our recruitment process and the recommendations have added to our successful hiring numbers. Candidates have praised our willingness to help and guide them with Right to Work Checks and smaller things, such as translation of training.
We’ve also hosted and attended Ukrainian recruitment events including a very successful event at our very own Apex City Quay & Spa Hotel in Dundee, from which we welcomed 7 new recruits.
Hospitality Day is about recognising hospitality in all its forms. At Apex, we’ll always provide our signature warmer welcome to guests and we’ll extend it to anyone leaving their old life behind. We hope to continue to support new employees and their families as they adjust and settle into a new, and prosperous life in the UK.
