What inspired you to become a therapist?
During my childhood and into adulthood, I had a liver disorder (assigned at birth). This resulted me in having two liver transplants during my teenage years. During my hospital stays my parents treated me to mini treatments, mostly massages. I loved how I could escape from my surroundings and relax from the world around me. I loved the smells and how the physical contact could make you feel you were not alone, no matter what you were going through. Once I graduated high school I knew I wanted to give that feeling back to others.
What training do you have?
I studied beauty therapy at West Lothian collage for three years. I landed my first job just after I qualified in 2014. I have worked in a few hotels however Apex is my favourite by far.
How long have you worked at Apex/why do you like it?
I have worked for Apex for 7 months, the company is amazing as the staff are treated so well. Everyone is friendly and always happy to help with any enquiries you may have.
What do you offer at Apex that is special to other spas?
We offer great packages, our latest one is called "Time for Two". This package includes our Yu signature treatment (back massage & facial with a scalp massage) followed by 3 mini plates and a mocktail at our restaurant. Guests will also receive a 20% discount on a future treatment. This will run from 10th of October - 31st December.
Can you tell me about a time you know you’ve really helped someone with massage?
I had a client who suffered chronic back pain between his shoulder blades. He had been to physio, GP appointments and tried chiropractors. Nothing seemed to help. He came to me for a course of 6 massages, once a week. By the end of his sessions he was feeling brand new. He did not have any pain, his posture had improved and he felt he was more mobile on a daily basis.
What is massage important and how often should we have one?
Massage relieves muscle tension and aids relaxation and stress. It also helps to increase the bodies circulation as well as the bodies general health. You should try getting a massage at least once or twice a month. Some people may need one once a week depending on their individual needs.
