Name: Lana Niga
Role: Spa Reception Supervisor
Hotel: Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa
What is your typical day at Apex like?
I have one of the best roles in the spa, I get to make sure everything is perfect for our guests. From scheduling appointments, getting the music volume just right, setting up the aromatherapy, engaging with our members and making sure treatments all run on time. Everything front of house falls to me and I love it. There are certainly no two days the same in my role and that keeps things interesting.
What’s the best part about your role?
As a newer supervisor I have found that I have a real passion for training, watching someone go from a nervous day one to a confident day 60 is a real joy. I also really love having conversations with the spa members that I have got to know. I am often on a later shift and see the same guests. In a hotel setting, a lot of our guests are transient, getting to know members is a really nice part of the role.
If you could pick any role at Apex, what would you do?
Can I have the head of Spa's job?!
I see myself progressing in spa, I really enjoy this environment and I love what I do. I started as a therapist at Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa and then worked my way up to my supervisor role so who knows what’s next!
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
If at first you don’t succeed, try again!
What is your favourite way to relax?
I used to work on cruise ships so travelling is important to me. My favourite country so far would be Tauranga, New Zealand. It’s like a real life beach movie with ice cream shops and cafés everywhere. The people are so lovely and it’s 100% my happy, relaxation place.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be & why?
I would love to be able to read people's minds. Not only would it help me in my role to anticipate our guests needs but I bet I would find out some pretty interesting information!
