We believe that a career in hospitality is more than just a job and are so impressed with the fast progress of our apprentices and love to watch them thrive.
Megan Robb, completed the Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland (AHS) in 2017 and is now an Operations Trainer, based at Apex City Quay and Spa in Dundee working across all Apex Hotels in Scotland.
Our AHS apprenticeship allows candidates to work across four main departments in our hotels to gain overall knowledge of the hospitality sector. For 17-year-old Megan, this route was invaluable.
“I went into the AHS straight from school in 2017 and it really opened my eyes to all the career opportunities available in hospitality, she said. “Before I found about the AHS, I was interested in a career in HR or events but as soon as I began working with my teams and learned the different roles and met new people, I knew I wanted to work in an operational role.
Once I had completed the 6 months experience in every department, I worked towards a management level qualification while joining the restaurant as a team leader. Lockdown meant that I was unable to work while studying but I used the time to complete the qualification and came back as a supervisor in 2021.”
Megan, now 22, has used the insight and experience she gained on her apprenticeship to gain a new role as an Operational Trainer where she welcomes new trainees to the business and mentors and supports them so they can achieve their full potential.
“My new role is the perfect fit for me as I have worked across all departments which allows me to offer guidance to others, which I really enjoy. If I hadn’t completed the apprenticeships with Apex Hotels, I may have gone to college with the hope of finding my way back to a hotel. I would recommend this route to anyone and have been an ambassador for the course and promoted it to schools – I even won Apprenticeship of the Year!”
Megan is just one of our many success stories with Apex Hotels. We annually recruit for candidates for the AHS, just like Megan. As well as this, we offer graduate apprenticeships in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University and Dundee University. We will be advertising for these roles again in Summer 2023.
Additionally, we have current opportunities for apprenticeships within the Apex family across many of our hotel operations including housekeeping, food and beverage, conference and events, kitchen, front of house and reception.
We would be delighted to hear from you if you are interested in continuing your hospitality career with the challenge of an apprenticeship, to add a qualification to your CV, or if you’re completely new to the hospitality sector.
