For every 13 babies born in the UK, one of them is born prematurity, which can sometime have a devastating impact on families. That’s why we've decided to highlight the cause by lighting up two of our hotels on World Prematurity Day, today (17 November).
From sunset tonight, Apex Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh and Apex Temple Court Hotel in London will both light up purple to help raise awareness for the day and charities that support families affected by premature births.
David Spingford, family and board member, is a trustee of one of these charities, Simpsons Special Care Babies, along with his wife Gemma. The charity works with families across Scotland who have been affected by a premature birth.
David said: “SSCB are delighted to have the continued support from both businesses and individuals illuminating buildings purple in support of World Prematurity Day on 17th November, highlighting the amazing care and work staff do at The Simpson Neonatal Unit. This year we showcase the unit with our Virtual Tour and encourage you to visit as well as meet some of the team and parents kindly sharing their stories in the new Parent Care section.”
Simpsons Special Care Babies is a voluntary run charity, founded in Edinburgh in 1985. They fundraise to support the specialist care that the wonderful staff of the Simpson Neonatal Unit provide to babies born prematurely or sick, both within Edinburgh and throughout the country.
