Day 1 - settling in
The first day is all about settling in. Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa is a short walk from Dundee Train Station. Check-in, explore your room, soak up the views of the River Tay, check out what’s on offer at Yu Spa, and have a peak at our stylish Quayside Bar & Grill. Once that’s done, head out to explore your new ‘hood. A short walk down to the front and you’ll find the world-famous V&A Dundee Museum. Head to The Wine Press for a celebratory first day drink, and muse over the fun that lies ahead.
Day 2 - sTAYING LOCAL
A day of culture awaits after a cracking night’s sleep. Make sure you book your tickets for the V&A Dundee in advance – you won’t want to miss their summer exhibition ‘Night Fever, Designing Club Culture’. When you’re done, hop aboard RRS Discovery next door, the famous ship which took Captain Scott to the Antarctic. A photo opp with the cute penguins outside is a must! For lunch, take a stroll up the Perth Road and choose from a range of indie bars and cafes, and afterwards stop in at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre. For a bit of history, head to Glamis Castle in the afternoon. Now this last tip is secret – end the day at hidden bar, Draffens, for 1920s vibes and cocktails to kill.
Day 3 - hEADING FURTHER AFIELD
The quaint costal town of St Andrews is only a short drive, train or bus trip away, and is calling out to be explored. Take in some of the town’s history as you pass by the famous Old Course on the way into town. Golfing enthusiasts will want to pay home to the 19th hole, The Jigger Inn. In town you can explore the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral down at the shore. You’ll happily get lost in the winding, cobbled streets of St Andrews, and enjoy taking in the majestic University buildings alongside the fisherman’s cottages. A walk along the East or West Sands Beach, where the film Chariots of Fire was filmed, is a must as is a fish supper from local chippy, Cromars. Best eaten on the beach with the wind in your hair!
Day 4 - GET OUT ON THE WATER
Early risers can take a trip to the top of The Law and take in views across the city. For a more leisurely start, head to Verdant Works to find out more about the town’s famous history with the Jute, Jam & Journalism trade roots. On fair weather days, a trip out on the Silvery Tay with Pirate Boat Tours to see the dolphins is exhilarating, and closer to home, literally next door to the hotel, you'll find Fox Lake Adventure Park. Finally, an afternoon wander along the beach at Broughty Ferry (a 15 minute drive or bus ride away) is complete with an ice cream from Vichoccis in hand.
Day 5 - CHECKING-OUT
You’ll want to enjoy your final hotel lie in, and no doubt another delicious breakfast, but if your travel plans allow, there’s still time to explore one last bit of the city. The kids will enjoy a trip to Camperdown Park where they can play pirate ships in the playpark or visit the animals at the zoo. If you want to stay local, head to McManus Galleries for one last blast of local culture.
